Hi everybody! It’s the start of a new school year and a new concert season. I always love this time of year, with its sense of fresh energy and possibility.
I have some concerts coming up this fall that I wanted to let you all know about, so you can plan ahead and mark your calendars!
On Wednesday September 25th from 12:05-12:35 at the Interchurch Center in Manhattan (61 Claremont Avenue, New York, NY, 10115), Kyle Walker and I will be playing a short version of our program inspired by the natural world, For The Beauty of the Earth. We’ll play Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Deep River (as transcribed for violin and piano by Maud Powell), William Grant Still’s Pastorela, and Ginastera’s Pampeana. "While the primary purpose of the series is to provide a cultural respite for the Tenants of The Interchurch Center in the midst of the workweek, all are welcome." If you work close by and can spare 30 minutes of your lunch break, we would love to share this beautiful music with you.
Next, on Saturday, October 5th, at 6:30, we’ll be playing the full version of this program (all the pieces from September 25th, plus Laura Kaminsky’s undercurrent and Roberto Sierra’s Sonata para Violìn y Piano) at the Custer Institute and Observatory in Southold, NY. After the concert, there will be guided stargazing through the onsite telescopes!
I was inspired by my kiddo’s love of space (rockets, especially anything related to the Apollo 11 mission, etc.) Every book and documentary we encountered came to the same conclusion: the more we look (or travel!) out to the heavens, the more we appreciate the beauty and fragility of our home planet. How cool is it to combine a concert centered on the earth and our relationship to our natural surroundings with the opportunity to look out at the stars through these powerful telescopes? Reserve your tickets today; we would love to see you there! For The Beauty Of The Earth Tickets, Sat, Oct 5, 2024 at 6:30 PM | Eventbrite
On Sunday November 3rd at 3:00, I’ll be joining my colleagues from the Hudson Valley Symphony Orchestra for a Newburgh Chamber Music Series concert in the Sanctuary of the Kol Yisrael Temple, 290 North Street, in Newburgh, NY. A woodwind quintet will play an arrangement of Prokofiev’s Peter And The Wolf. I’ll be in a string quartet playing Britten’s quirky Alla Marcia, Schubert’s dramatic and gorgeous Quartettsatz, and Jessie Montgomery’s rhythmic and exciting work, Strum. A brass quintet will finish off the program.
Here’s to a new year of musical adventures together!
